Overview

West End Synagogue is a diverse, egalitarian congregation that combines respect for our traditions with a contemporary approach to Jewish life and learning. We are searching for an Assistant Rabbi, Director of Engagement, to lead our efforts in developing and implementing engagement strategies to cultivate and deepen levels of connection with existing and potential members at West End Synagogue. This position ensures that initiatives, programming, and communication align to maximize engagement and connection opportunities.

A successful leader of West End Synagogue’s community engagement work will get to know current and potential members by learning about their interests and needs and connecting them with other members. They will develop and implement a diverse array of creative programs that help all members connect and find their place in our community.  This position reports to the Senior Rabbi and works collaboratively as a part of the professional team at West End Synagogue.

Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Develop and execute a strategic membership plan focused on growth and retention.
  • Meet with prospective, new, and current members to assess member and community needs.
  • Participate in Shabbat and holiday services and other community events to welcome members and build relationships.
  • Strengthen community engagement through outreach and involvement in other Jewish and non-Jewish community organizations.
  • Create social media content to enhance the visibility of West End Synagogue, connect with current and prospective members, and engage audiences across multiple platforms.
  • Cultivate volunteers and lay leadership within the congregation to engage in and lead membership activities.

Programming

  • Develop, plan, and oversee high quality, creative programming for existing and prospective members.
  • Create engaging publicity materials.
  • Oversee event coordination, logistics, and follow-up.

Rabbinic Duties

  • Assist with lifecycle events and pastoral duties as needed.
  • Assist Senior Rabbi in leading Shabbat, holiday, and weekday services.

Teaching

  •  Teach at Religious School on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Qualifications:
  • Rabbinic Ordination
  • Ability to work both independently, taking initiative to do what is necessary to get the job done, and to work collaboratively as a part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and skilled at building relationships and fostering personal connections.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools
  • Proficiency with leading services, reading Torah and Haftarah.
Position Start Date: August 1, 2024

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000
