Overview
We are seeking a part-time Rabbi to partner with our congregation as a spiritual leader. The position will begin in September 2026. Compensation will range from $50,000 to $70,000 annually, and a large parsonage within walking distance of the Temple will be provided.
What We Seek in a Rabbi
The Rabbi will serve as the spiritual leader of the congregation, working in collaboration with the Ritual Committee. Responsibilities include providing pastoral care to members, overseeing educational initiatives, and participating in congregational programming and events.
In addition to spiritual leadership, we seek a Rabbi who is an innovative thinker, personable and approachable, committed to diversity and inclusion, possesses a sense of humor,and demonstrates a willingness to engage actively with both the Temple and the broader local community.
Temple Beth El of Patchogue is a Conservative, egalitarian synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, serving approximately 90 families on the South Shore of Long Island in Suffolk County. Our diverse, multigenerational congregation includes members from early childhood through their nineties.
Current member of the Rabbinical Assembly, Applicants must hold a valid rabbinic ordination from a recognized rabbinic institution
Oversee and be responsible for all religious services, including Shabbat (Friday evening and Saturday morning), High Holy Days, and festivals.
Lead services with active congregational participation
Able and willing to read Torah and lead Torah study
Deliver meaningful and inspiring sermons
Supervise and ensure adherence to synagogue kashrut standards
Officiate at all life-cycle events, including baby namings, B’nai Mitzvah, funerals, and shiva minyanim
Provide pastoral counseling and guidance to congregants
Visit or contact congregants who are hospitalized or homebound
Develop and expand adult education programming
Collaborate with board and committees to develop that engage members and prospective members
