Overview

A small New Jersey Reform congregation just outside NYC needs a part-time rabbi for High Holiday services (3) (in the temple) as well as Saturday morning Shabbat services via Zoom most of the time. Provide pastoral care and counseling to congregants, officiate at life-cycle events, teach 1 hour adult education class per week, participate in community outreach and 3 Interfaith activities, write monthly column for newsletter.

Timing Expectations: 3 high holiday services (Rosh Hashanah morning, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur morning and Yizkor in person; weekly Saturday morning services via Zoom..occasionally in temple
Community Description:

Bayonne is a small blue-collar town 7 miles outside NYC. There is a small Jewish community which will hopefully increase with the amount of new apartment buildings going up and a movie studio being built. Bayonne still has a Reform, Conservative, Orthodox synagogues and a Chabad.

Work Remotely: yes
Qualifications:

Ordained Reform Rabbi or Cantor. Can be a student, intern, or retiree. Strong knowledge of Jewish traditions, rituals, and laws. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to engage with an older congregation.  Experience in pastoral care.  Musical ability is a plus.

Position Start Date: September 1, 2024
Salary Range: $20,000-$35,000
