Job Posting: Assistant Rabbi/ Director of Family Engagement
B’nai Shalom is a contemporary Conservative synagogue that offers a traditional spiritual experience and a warm community. Members share a commitment to Jewish values, in personally meaningful and diverse ways. There are egalitarian Shabbat (with Kiddush lunch) and holiday services, as well as daily morning and evening minyanim. B’nai Shalom is dedicated to volunteerism, Jewish culture, philanthropy, and Israel. It welcomes new members of all backgrounds and family structures. B’nai Shalom supports full inclusion and participation of individuals having all abilities in both religious and communal life.
We are searching for a part-time Assistant Rabbi/ Director of Family Engagement to lead our efforts in recruiting and retaining young member families.
Rabbinic Ordination preferred but not required.
This position includes:
Family & Youth
· Being active in the community at large, planning and/or attending programs that attract young families.
· Making effective use of social media to identify and connect with Jewish families
· Establishing meaningful relationships with current and prospective families, leading to improving membership acquisition and retention.
· Creating and leading activities at B’nai Shalom for young families, such as:
o Pre-School holiday workshops
o Family Shabbat services and dinners
o “Shabbat Fun” early childhood Shabbat Morning programs
· Serving as the advisor for B’nai Shalom’s Kadima and USY chapters.
Rabbinic and Pastoral:
· Attending Community Social Events and Simcha’s
· Attendance at occasional Shabbat, Holiday, and Weekday Services
· Assisting with other Pastoral duties as needed
Synagogue Youth Education:
· Creating and implementing a post-B’nai Mitzvah Religious School program.
· Working with the current Religious School leadership to create and coordinate online curriculum and education components.
Desired Qualifications:
· Creative, optimistic and passionate about making a difference in the future of Conservative Judaism
· Demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to serve as a role model and mentor for our youth.
· Experience working with families and children of all ages, with a strong background in informal Jewish education.
· A positive attitude toward Jewish life including familiarity with traditional Conservative Judaism and appreciation of practices i.e. Shabbat & Kashrut
· Ability to work independently and take the initiative to do what is necessary to get the job done, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
· Self-motivated and energetic with a vision for youth participation, engagement, and growth.
· Effective management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Technological proficiency
· Creative, digital and print marketing talents a plus.
· Skillful with social media and basic computer applications needed.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Work Relationships:
· Work collaboratively with colleagues at B’nai Shalom to ensure the Synagogue can achieve its vision.
· Work with other community youth professionals, Hagalil Regional and USY International staff to support programming
· Attend local meetings of youth professionals and conferences
