Overview

Temple Sholom is seeking an Assistant Rabbi to collaborate with the synagogue’s Senior Rabbi and serve the educational, youth, religious, spiritual, and pastoral needs of its congregation.

The candidate is expected to model and teach Jewish values and culture, and be personally engaged within our larger community.  A majority of this position is geared toward the spiritual and educational growth of youth and families.  The remaining duties of this role are dedicated to leading services, planning holiday experiences, covering minyanim, teaching, preaching, pastoral care, and life-cycle events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Education

Consulting on Judaic curriculum within the nursery and religious schools
Mentoring and guiding teachers in the delivery of this curriculum
Teaching and leading:
Adult education classes and seminars throughout the year
Saturday morning Shabbat Study
Weekly Lunch ‘n Learn program
Working with B’nai Mitzvah students writing D’vrei Torah, and  selecting mitzvah projects

Clergy and Spiritual

Leading family High Holiday services including Tot, Young Family and Family services with musical guests
Substituting for the Senior Rabbi in main sanctuary services as needed
Leading supplemental worship services
Serving as on-call for Senior Rabbi as needed
Supplementing and substituting for Senior Rabbi at life-cycle events
Providing pastoral and counseling support
Hosting Friday night dinners for members of the congregation and community
Having the skills to to chant Torah; Haftorah and lead minyanim.

Youth

Creating  a positive and spirited environment for youth of all ages
Planning, organizing and implementing  programming for all Temple youth groups: such as BBYO (9th – 12th graders); Club 678, Youth 345 and Youth Pre-K, 1 & 2
Primary advisor  to Judah BBYO
Developing social, religious, fundraising, social action, service learning and Israel programming for all youth
Overseeing the Madrichim program and other teen educational initiatives
Services, holiday programs, field trips, and social action programs
Leading weekly nursery school shabbat program and monthly Tot Shabbat services
Attending and supervising special school and family events such as grade level Shabbat

Rabbi Qualifications: We are a member of USCJ, but at this point have a waiver to look outside USCJ. Looking for a Rabbi that will adhere to the rules of Conservative Judaism.

Qualifications:

Rabbinic ordination from a recognized seminary
Masters Degree in Education (preferred)
3 to 5 years of prior experience
Excellent written and oral communication
Collaborative and Team player mentality
Effective multitasking skills

Position Start Date: July 1, 2024
