Overview

Temple Israel of Vestal is seeking candidates to serve as the High Holidays Cantor for the coming year, 2020. We are an egalitarian Conservative synagogue. The Cantor should be prepared to lead the principal High Holiday services as the Hazzan with our Rabbi, and to sing, chant, and read the prayers during the services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. An ideal candidate should be able to lead services and blend the traditional Conservative congregational melodies with contemporary melodies, while inspiring congregants to sing with them.

Qualifications:

Experience as a cantor for conservative synagogues

Proficiency in high holiday prayers, melodies, and biblical Hebrew

Position Start Date: September 17, 2020
Benefits:

Cantor can be placed with community members for meals during Rosh Hashanah and for Yom Kippur break-the-fast, if they so desire.

Salary Range: $3500-6000 dependent upon experience and travel/housing costs
