Rabbi Search 2022 – Full-time Rabbi for Temple Har Zion, Mount Holly, NJ

Temple Har Zion in Mount Holly, NJ is seeking a full-time Rabbi to be part of our knowledgeable and engaged community. Established more than 80 years ago, we are a small, warm, egalitarian synagogue in historic Mount Holly, New Jersey. We have our own building with a lovely curved sanctuary.

As a congregation, we have been joyfully davening and singing in both the Conservative and Jewish Renewal traditions for many years. Over our long history, we have evolved with the times and needs of our members. Now, as a community of primarily empty-nesters, we treasure our close-knit community. We are continually exploring new ways to regularly engage with and explore our Jewish path and roots in a changing world.
We seek a dynamic leader who will serve our needs, help us shape our vision for the future, and help us attract others who share that vision and commitment.

We envision our new rabbi as someone who is educated in Torah and Talmud; has good Hebrew language skills; leads lively, meaningful, services; is familiar with the mystical teachings of Judaism; has good interpersonal skills; and is spiritually nurturing and intellectually engaging. Our spiritual leader will communicate with the congregation through many platforms; will be involved in the area Jewish and interfaith communities; and will be available to congregants for all life cycle events and rabbinic counseling.

Our congregants continue their Jewish and spiritual learning, seeking out and studying with teachers from all walks of Jewish life. We appreciate studying traditional subjects and timely topics with our rabbi who will teach adult education classes throughout the year. Our rabbi leads weekly Friday night and Saturday morning services and all Jewish holiday and festival services reads Torah and gives a drash/leads a discussion during Shabbat morning services. The rabbi will work with our High Holiday cantor. Comfort and facility with traditional Conservative nusach, new and evolving chants and melodies, as well as Jewish Renewal, is important. We daven from Siddur Lev Shalem and Ivdu Et Hashem B’Simcha and study Torah from Etz Hayim. Many of our members enjoy taking leadership roles in services, programs, and social action and are eager to work with a rabbi who supports them and the congregation in these roles. We hold services both in-person and on Zoom as conditions dictate. We are seeking a rabbi to be a local, in-person presence.
