Overview

Temple Beth Shalom is a Conservative congregation of 65 family units located in the seashore community of Brigantine, New Jersey. Many of our members are part-time residents, but there is a very engaged core of members who live on the island full-time. Congregants are proactive in planning and executing adult education, holiday celebrations, and social events.

We are seeking an individual who can lead an inviting, inclusive, and joyous Shabbat prayer experience, an individual with both proficient Torah reading skills and the ability to teach Torah. Many of our members are from Reform and Reconstructionist backgrounds and are open to flexibility in their davening experience. The freelance position focuses on the spiritual leader conducting 4 Shabbat services each month (2 Friday nights in person, 1 Friday remote through Zoom, and 1 Shabbat morning service in person), as well as Yizkor and High Holiday services. The spiritual leader may also participate in synagogue meetings, chaplaincy, and lifecycle events as needed.

We are a welcoming synagogue with a positive presence in our community. We would like our clergy to take a genuine interest in us as individuals and our activities as a congregation and in the Brigantine community.

Salary is based on a “per service, per duty” model and will total approximately $31,700 annually. Transportation and housing are negotiable.
