Overview

Temple Beth-El (Richmond, VA), a dynamic community of 315 member units and 68 students in our K-10 religious school, seeks a Director of Congregational Learning. The individual in this new position will be responsible for creating and implementing cohesive educational programming for our multigenerational community working with our Senior Rabbi and lay leaders to advance our educational vision and community engagement strategy. The Director of Congregational Learning will engage directly with our community, help lead educational opportunities for both our youth and learners of all ages, serve as a mentor and a resource to both students and staff, and work to bolster opportunities for Jewish education and experience. In this role, you will be responsible for leading our twice a week religious school – to include recruiting students and staff, overseeing curriculum development and delivery, coordinating periodic Shabbat and holiday programs for the religious school youth, developing youth group programming within the synagogue as well as promoting such programs as may be offered in the larger Jewish community, and ensuring smooth, safe, and secure operations. You will also oversee our B’nai Mitzvah tutoring program. At present, the current B’nai Mitzvah class consists of 10 seventh grade students and 3 sixth grade students. In addition, you will partner with the Senior Rabbi to deliver meaningful, relevant, and inspiring programming to both the youth and adults of the congregation.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a collaborative spirit and demonstrated administrative experience. Illustrative examples of the experience sought might include but not be limited to the following: the hiring, necessary training and support of teachers and teaching assistants; assisting teachers with classroom management; creating age appropriate curriculum; developing and managing a detailed budget; seeking grants to support new and expanding educational opportunities; developing strong relationships with religious school families.

Preferred qualifications include a combination of Rabbinic ordination with practical experience.
