Who We Are:
Base is a movement of young rabbinic couples building a pluralistic, hospitality-forward vision of Jewish life that is inspiring, relevant, and purposeful. Base couples accomplish this by welcoming young adults into their home and modeling what vibrant home-based Jewish life can look like. From within their homes and neighborhoods, Base rabbinic couples cultivate authentic experiences for young Jews (22-35) seeking meaningful learning and community. Base rabbis, like the populations they serve, come from diverse backgrounds and are committed to fostering relationships with Jewish young adults that add meaning, purpose, and joy to their lives.

Based-In is the innovative part-time model of our highly successful Base program. It is designed for non-congregational rabbis who are looking to invest up to 15 hours of work per week in service of local young adults.

Base is a program of Moishe (pronounced moy-shuh) House, the global leader in peer-led Jewish young adult engagement. Launched in 2006 when four friends began hosting Shabbat dinners in their home, Moishe House provides a space for over 70,000 young adults around the world to create meaningful, welcoming Jewish communities for themselves and their peers each year. To date, there are more than 150 communities in over 30 countries, and we’re still growing!

Who You Are and What You’ll Do: 
You will serve a Base community by hosting two Shabbat meals per month in your home, holding 8 one-on-one conversations per month, conducting 2 learning cohort sessions per month; and hosting 3 annual justice programs and 3 holiday meals per year. All program supplies are reimbursed from a dedicated budget.

• You are an Engaging Educator, experienced with teaching in the pedagogies of experiential education, hevruta, source-based text study, and others. You’ll use this experience to model and teach others how to find meaning, relevance, and purpose in the wide canon of Jewish wisdom.
• You have a clear vision for the Jewish world that you want to share and a drive to actualize that vision. You understand the local, North American, and global Jewish landscape and can articulate your mission within it to people with different Jewish backgrounds, ideologies, and visions.
• You are knowledgeable and a Life-Long Learner, sharing a reservoir of Jewish content, while simultaneously pursuing continued education and ongoing growth and development.

The Fine Print:
The Part-Time Based-In Rabbi is supervised by Base’s Program Director, works approximately 15 hours per week, in a location in the United States with a significant Jewish young adult population, and collaborates closely with the Base team.

Based-In rabbis meet for monthly supervision with their supervisor, attend a monthly meeting with the Based-In cohort, and a monthly learning session with the entire staff of Base rabbis.

Due to the timing of the Jewish holidays throughout the month of October, we anticipate being slower to respond to the candidates during this time.

• You’ll join the cohort of current Base Rabbis, and benefit from their ongoing learning, case study analysis, and sharing of best practices
• Based-In Rabbis will benefit from regular one-on-one meetings with a supervisor and from cohort sessions
• This position is eligible for the Parsonage Benefit through Moishe House

How Moishe House Pays You:
For the programming work in your home, you will be paid $2,250 per month
