Rabbi (Retired) – Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation (LCJC) Ajijic, Mexico

Ajijic is a vibrant lakeside town located approximately one hour south of Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city. It sits on the shores of Lake Chapala, the largest lake in Mexico, and is known for its temperate climate, natural beauty, active expatriate community, and rich cultural life.

The Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation (LCJC) is seeking a retired rabbi who is interested in a new adventure and a meaningful change of pace in a warm, welcoming community in Ajijic, Mexico.

LCJC is a small, friendly, inclusive, culturally diverse, and independent congregation serving the Lakeside community. Our membership includes individuals who may affiliate with the Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, or Reconstructionist movements. We are committed to making Judaism accessible and meaningful to all who seek it.

Our congregation warmly welcomes interfaith and same-sex couples and families, and we encourage participation from anyone seeking a religious, spiritual, or social connection to Jewish life. Our Siddur and Machzor follow the Reconstructionist movement. Kashrut at LCJC does not permit meat or treif on the premises.

Position Overview
We are seeking a rabbi to serve approximately 15–20 hours per week. Responsibilities include:

Leading Shabbat services on Friday evening and Saturday morning
Becoming familiar with and using our Reconstructionist Siddur and chanting Torah
Preparing and delivering a weekly d’var Torah (drash)
Officiating and facilitating rituals and observances for major Jewish holidays, including:

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
Passover
Sukkot
Simchat Torah
Chanukah
Purim
Serving as a non-voting member of the LCJC Board of Directors and the Ritual Committee
Participating in congregational social and community events
This position is ideal for a retired rabbi seeking a fulfilling role in a close-knit, appreciative community while enjoying the unique lifestyle and beauty of the Lake Chapala area.
