Overview
The Asbell Center for Jewish Life is an office located within the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Dickinson College and oversees all aspects of Jewish Life on Campus. Dickinson College is a liberal arts college located in Carlisle, PA, and has a Jewish student population of approximately 180. This is a three-month, part- time, interim position designed to support Jewish students and the robust functioning of Jewish Life during the current director’s leave. The position will combine virtual and in-person work on campus, and connect the interim director to resources within DEI, at Hillel International, in Judaic Studies, and with the Center’s Alumni Advisory Board.
Essential Functions:
1. Attend one Shabbat per month during the time when school is in session, for a total of two Shabbat over the course of leave. During weekends on campus, engage with Jewish students individually or in small group settings and participate in educational or social events per student interest.
2. Assist with planning Megillah reading on Purim in conjunction with local Jewish community of Beth Tikvah
3. Meet virtually with student workers every week and attend at least one in-person meeting at the beginning of the semester. Provide a supportive presence to student workers and encourage them to stay on task.
4. Meet virtually with Hillel, Challah for Hunger, and Achim board members four times during this period, with at least one in-person meeting.
5. Meet virtually every other week with the Asbell Administrative Assistant to provide advice around logistics for religious observances, calendar, upcoming events, etc.
6. Assist students and the administrative assistant in coordinating students to attend religious activities in Harrisburg as they so desire.
7. Coordinate via email with local Jewish community about building use in conjunction with the administrative assistant.
This is a fixed-term, interim directorship that will provide continuity of leadership and support of Jewish Life from January 2025 through March 2025.
