We welcome and strive to accommodate people of all abilities and encourage all members to be active participants in our community.

Our Religious School, which meets twice per week, currently enrolls nearly 100 students in classes for Kindergarteners through B’nei Mitzvah.  We have a modest adult education program and a fledgling USY group.  We expect to expand adult education offerings, as well as add classes and programs for post-B’nei Mitzvah teenagers.

1. Direct the Religious School for our students in pre-K-7

With about 100 students currently enrolled, our Religious School is academically rigorous, with concentrations in both Hebrew and Judaica.  Students often become madrichim in our school, assisting teachers and working with students in small groups.  Our teachers are often congregants with deep investment in our community and in the future of the Jewish people.  Our teachers’ commitment and diversity are one of our great strengths.  Responsibilities include:

recruiting, hiring, managing, and guiding all Religious School staff;
planning curriculum, calendar, schedules, field trips, and special events;
coordinating parent-teacher meetings and communicating with parents;
working with parents and teachers to find solutions for students with special needs;
ensuring a safe learning environment;
teaching special classes;
leading school-wide services (Shabbat, havdalah, weekday evenings, holidays)
coordinating and supporting the teen Madrichim;
preparing the annual school budget and monitoring expenses;
working closely with the Education Committee;
further developing youth and adult programming.

2. Serve as a member of the clergy team

A Rabbi or Cantor Educator will serve as a member of the clergy team, working in close collaboration with our Executive Director and Rabbi Marc Soloway on all aspects of Jewish life at Bonai Shalom, including but not limited to:

Shabbat, High Holiday, B’nei Mitzvah, and other services and events;
life-cycle events and community events;
pastoral functions as requested or as a backup to Rabbi Marc Soloway.

The primary reporting relationship for this position as Director of Education will be to the Executive Director with close coordination with Rabbi Soloway.
