Overview
Beyt Tikkun: A Synagogue without Walls, is seeking an experienced Zoom Manager who will be fully responsible for planning and facilitating the Zoom administration for Shabbat, High Holidays, festivals, and possibly classes throughout the year. Our spiritually deep and politically relevant services and events will typically be held on Zoom or hybrid from our Berkeley location. At Beyt Tikkun, we work together with purpose, mutual respect, integrity, compassion, and a sense of humor to keep it all in perspective.
The Zoom manager (ZM) can be virtual, although it would be ideal to be on-site the second day of Rosh Hashanah, and occasional events. The ZM will ensure that all technical aspects of the services run smoothly and will collaborate with the Rabbis to provide a rich, low-stress, interactive experience for all participants.
Job Description
We seek an experienced individual who will be fully responsible for setting up, running, and monitoring the Zoom services for Shabbat, High Holidays, festivals, and some classes for Beyt Tikkun. The congregation numbers approximately 20 to 40 participants on Shabbat, and 100 – 250 for High Holy Day services. The ZM will participate in planning meetings and decisions regarding how to implement and optimize Zoom for Zoom-only and hybrid services/classes. A high level of independence, competence, and accountability is necessary to ensure that the Rabbis, guest speakers, and congregants have a meaningful spiritual experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Zoom room for Shabbat, High Holy Day, holiday services, and events.
(See scheduling details in Time Commitment section below) - Shabbat services are held twice a month (1st and 3rd Saturday morning)
- High Holy Day services – Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah – Day 1 & 2, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur
- Host other holiday services and events throughout the year, dates TBD
- Since our events are on Zoom or hybrid, remote management will work for most activities. However, there are occasions when the Zoom manager’s participation from our Berkeley location would be preferred.
- Will use Zoom features such as security controls, muting, chat, screensharing, breakout rooms, polling, and recording.
- Moderate participation and take immediate action on inappropriate content (Zoom bombers).
- Create and share materials, video filters, whiteboards, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Monitor Chat and respond to participants’ needs.
- May schedule events and manage registrations.
- Will collaborate regularly with rabbis, cantors, and others for planning and preparation.
- May help oversee volunteer participants.
- Coordinate any logistical areas not covered by staff.
Time Commitment
High Holiday preparation and services: These time commitments are estimates in the lead-up to High Holidays for planning meetings and services. Some of the hours are fixed and some may be flexible.
Aug. 14 – Aug. 26 10-12 hours/week
Aug. 27 – Sept. 16 15-25 hours/week
Sept. 17 – Sept. 30th 25-30 hours/week
Rosh Hashanah: Fri. Sept. 15 (5 hrs eve), Sat. Sept. 16 (8 hrs), Sun. Sept. 17 (8 hrs)
Yom Kippur: Sun. Sept 24 (5 hrs eve), Mon. Sept.25 (8 hrs)
Sukkot: Sat., Sept. 30 (5 hrs)
On-going after the High Holy Days:
We estimate the time commitment to be 8-15 hours/month
Shabbat Services are held the 1st and 3rd Saturday morning of each month, 9:15-12:15 PST.
Compensation
The range is $25.00-30.00 per hour, depending on experience.

We are seeking someone who:
Has excellent administrative, planning, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
Demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, and follow-through.
Has proficiency with Zoom features such as security controls, muting, chat, screen sharing, breakout rooms, polling, and recording.
Has expertise and ease navigating and using Zoom as a host with large groups.
Can provide patient and knowledgeable technical assistance to participants and staff.
Is creative and excited to bring their fresh ideas for making Zoom services more user-friendly and accessible.
Stays current on Zoom tools, tutorials, and protocols.
Has a reasonably fast, stable internet connection, and a computer with at least a 14” screen; a second display is recommended.
We will give preference to candidates who are familiar with Jewish services and have familiarity with the Hebrew prayer book.
