Overview
TNS seeks a versatile, and inspirational leader to guide our vibrant Congregation. We are unaffiliated; this offers the Rabbi freedom to create a unique Jewish experience, one which deepens our respective and collective spiritual journeys. Adaptability is essential as the Rabbi attends to our educational, communal and emotional needs and also acts as a liaison to the larger Jewish community. The Rabbi reports to TNS’ Va’ad (Board of Trustees). This position is that of the synagogue’s sole, full-time Rabbi.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bimah and Pastoral Duties
• Lead all services including for High Holy Days, Kabbalat Shabbat, Shabbat morning, and other Holidays
• Provide spiritual and emotional support to members
• Write and send a weekly Shabbat message to the congregation
Education: Hebrew School, B’nai Mitzvah, Adult Education, and Conversion Instruction
• Oversee the design of Hebrew School curriculum and liaise with the TNS Director of Education
• Teach special Community Learning – Hebrew School lessons
• Prepare students (including adults) for b’nai mitzvah
• Function as core Rabbi for all B’nai Mitzvot services; coordinating music, activities, support staff
• Guide conversion candidates through entire process
• Develop and lead a regular adult education program
• Provide intergenerational educational programs for the general congregation
Lifecycle Duties
• Officiate at simchot (weddings, brises, b’nai mitzvah, etc.)
• Officiate at funerals and provide bikkur cholim, shiva and bereavement support for community members
Synagogue Outreach, Membership Development and Fundraising
• Grow TNS’ membership by creating an inviting atmosphere for new families, including interfaith and non-practicing community members
• Be involved in fundraising strategy development and planning; and participate in fundraising efforts in conjunction with Executive Director, Executive Committee, and Va’ad.
Community Relationships
• Encourage a sense of community within the congregation
• Develop innovative ideas for community events, including Tikkun Olam
• Be the lead voice in programming for TNS
• Contribute to website, newsletter, and regular communication with community
• Serve as Ambassador for TNS in the community at large
• Foster respectful relationships with other local religious organizations
• Attend or officiate TNS events
Administrative Duties
• In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Finance Committee of the Va’ad, participate in budget development and oversight
• Meet with the Executive Director weekly to review programming and any administrative functions issues
• Meet with the Executive Committee monthly, to review any/all administrative issues
• Attend the quarterly (and any ad hoc) Va’ad meetings, and prepare the Rabbi’s report

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Rabbinical ordination from an accredited program/seminary
o Pluralistic or non-denominational training is a plus
• Congregational experience is a plus, but recent graduates with relevant skills will be considered — we are looking for a leader who will grow with us
• Commitment to innovative spiritual leadership and creative programming
• High personal, ethical, and professional standards
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
• Grace and humor, under pressure
• Computer proficiency (social media skills are a plus)
• Music Director skills a definite plus (but by no means a must)
