Overview

Senior Rabbi for a progressive Conservative synagogue in beautiful East Greenwich, Rhode Island with a strong and optimistic vision for a thriving, inclusive and welcoming Jewish community.  Our 120-unit congregation includes young and old, interfaith families, Jews-by-choice, multi-racial families, with a wide range of observance levels.  We are looking for a dynamic leader who can engage our current members and inspire those who are not yet members to see the value of joining our community.  A successful candidate will be an effective communicator, moving nimbly between multiple roles.  Our community is looking for a spiritual leader, singer/instrumentalist, moral guide, leaders of weekly services, educator of young and old, comforter of the sick and bereaved, keeper of traditions, forward-thinker and more.   Unlike most synagogues in RI, we are blessed to have a modern building in a bucolic setting.  We seek someone with new ideas for enhancing the quality of experiences and services we provide our members, who will continue our tradition of celebrating the natural beauty of our campus and using it to emphasize, teach about, and remind us of our historical Jewish obligation to be stewards of the environment.

Community Description:

Rhode Island is the “Ocean State” and features beautiful Narragansett Bay and myriad opportunities for recreation
on and around the water. We have 400 miles of coastline, including world-class resplendent beaches, the bustling
and scenic vacation city of Newport, and a rich heritage of boating, sailing, and fishing. We have four seasons of
beauty, with verdant springs, warm summers, colorful fall foliage, and relatively mild winters. The Town of East
Greenwich (“EG”) is an affluent bedroom community
located on the Narragansett Bay shoreline and is the sixth oldest town in RI. The population is approximately 13,000
people. The Jewish population is sizable for the area, although a public school class might have only one or two
Jewish students. East Greenwich has a historic downtown area which is a mix of restaurants, shops and offices, and a
marina area. The rest of East Greenwich is developed with single family residences, residential condominiums, a few
apartment buildings and a small mixture of shopping
centers, offices and light manufacturing facilities. East Greenwich is located approximately 16 miles from
downtown Providence, a small capital city that is easy to navigate and rich in culture. Home to Brown University and
the Rhode Island School of Design, beautiful Roger Williams Park and Zoo, vibrant local theater, and myriad
restaurants, Providence is an accessible small city just a short drive (or bus or train ride) from EG. Boston is about
50 miles away and easily reached by train. Boston’s
regional commuter rail stops in nearby Wickford and Warwick. Amtrak runs many trains through Providence
(including Acela) northbound to Boston or southbound to New York (~3.5 hour ride). Rhode Island International
airport - rated Best Small Airport by U.S. News & World report - is a 15 minute drive from the temple.
