Overview

Temple Emanu-El, the premier Conservative synagogue in Providence, Rhode Island, is seeking an engaging individual to serve as a leader for our newly re-designed early childhood family service and one of our youth services for Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur 5779.

The Youth and Family Service Leader will be responsible for the following:

·         Lead a 45 minute interactive family service geared towards children ages 3-6 and their families on both days of Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur

·         Lead one of the following:

o   Lead a 2 hour service, including activities and a snack break, for children in 3rd-5th grade on both days of Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur

OR

o   Lead a 2 hour service, including activities and snack, for children in 6th-8th grade on the first day of Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur (with the possible addition of leading a one-hour discussion for middle and high school students on the second day of Rosh HaShannah)

·         Lead an hour long Ne’ilah program for children in grades 1-5 that consists of stories and educational activities/games, and culminates with joining the congregation in the main sanctuary for Havdallah

·         Possibly lead a one hour Kol Nidrei service for children in grades 1-5

·         Craft the content of the above services and programs in conjunction with our second rabbi, Rachel Zerin, and our youth advisor, Shosh Jacob

All of these services will be an opportunity for the children to learn prayers and melodies, take on leadership roles (such as leading certain prayers or reading Torah) when appropriate, and encounter the themes of the holidays in an age-appropriate way. It is our intention that these services build the scaffolding for a smooth transition from youth services into “adult” services as the children grow up.
