Overview
Temple Beth Zion (TBZ) in Brookline, Massachusetts seeks an experienced, energetic and progressive Jewish educational leader who will join us to advance educational and programmatic goals for our whole community. TBZ is an independent, inclusive Jewish congregation whose members of all ages are committed to each other, to joyful participatory worship and meaningful Jewish learning. We are a synagogue concerned with the spiritual experience of our community and seek an educator who has the capacity to help families and children, as well as adults, on their Jewish journeys.
This individual will work in partnership with our Rabbi, staff and lay leadership to strategize a vision for the future, lead implementation of an integrated education program, and create engaging programming. This individual will serve in a planning and supervisory capacity, and must be willing to execute programs with a “hands-on” approach. The Director of Congregational Learning and Programming must be eager to strategize, experiment, reflect, and correct course as needed so that s/he/they and TBZ can grow and flourish. Competitive salary will be commensurate with experience.
The Director of Congregational Learning and Programming will have direct and ongoing responsibility for:
- Beit Rabban (innovative K-7 Hebrew and religious school program)
- Shabbat programming for families and children of all ages
- Community holiday programming
This person will also oversee:
- B’nei Mitzvah process in partnership with Rabbi
- Teen engagement including involvement in The Tent, a program for Jewish teens of Greater Boston
- Adult educational programming in conjunction with Adult Learning Committee and Rabbi
- TBZ community programming including Annual Community Retreat
The ideal candidate will be an MA-level Jewish educator or a BA-level educator with equivalent experience who is engaging, innovative, strategic, reflective, organized, and has excellent communication skills. Ability to connect with individuals and families formally and informally is essential. This person must have strong management and administrative abilities as well as Judaic programming and classroom teaching experience. Some background in adult educational programming is desirable. We seek both a leader and a team-player who is excited to be an integral part of the TBZ leadership team

TBZ is a non-denominational Jewish congregation located in Brookline Massachusetts, an exciting hub of Jewish life. We are a community of seekers who do not necessarily fit into neat categories of Judaism. Our open-minded and thoughtful community includes members of all ages and backgrounds, with sizable cohorts of dedicated young families and retirees. 360 households come from cities and towns throughout the metropolitan Boston area. Our Beit Rabban program currently has 60 children enrolled in grades K-7. As a vibrant and growing community, TBZ is excited to expand our current part-time educational leadership to a full-time dedicated position of Director of Congregational Learning and Programming. The Director of Congregational Learning and Programming will work under the supervision of Rabbi Claudia Kreiman.
About Brookline, MA:
Temple Beth Zion is located on historic Beacon Street in Brookline, Massachusetts, within five miles of downtown Boston to the East, and Harvard Square to the North. First settled in 1635, Brookline’s proximity to Boston and easy access to public transportation gives it a lively urban feel, while maintaining a more relaxed atmosphere, communal feeling and open spaces. Brookline has a nationally regarded public school system, as well as options for day care, Jewish and general pre-schools, and access to day school education in neighboring areas. Its population is diverse and multi-generational.
The town boasts both casual and upscale bars and restaurants, many coffee shops, a multi-branch library system and beautiful park spaces, including the Emerald Necklace designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Brookline is home to a vibrant Jewish community with kosher restaurants and a kosher butcher, as well as over a dozen Jewish synagogues and temples. Our congregation is snug between two main shopping districts, Washington Square and Coolidge Corner, and within easy walking distance of both. Highlights of the area include a large independent bookstore, an independent movie theatre, several grocery stores and pharmacies. And we are less than 3 miles away from Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox!
