Overview

Temple Beth Ohr of La Mirada, a URJ-affiliated Reform Jewish Temple, is searching for our next part-time Cantor. We are an intimate congregation of around 165 households. Our congregation is comprised of congregants that span the generations: young families, those with adult children, and active seniors. Temple Beth Ohr is a place of creative, innovative, and inspirational Reform Judaism.

The Cantor is an integral part of our Temple: a pulpit partner with the Rabbi, a source of musical inspiration in the worship service, and a song leader/educator for our youth. We are looking for a cantor who works collaboratively and who is innovative and creative in advancing our congregation’s vision of sacred time, sacred learning, and sacred relationships.

Duties Include:

Avodah

In collaboration with the Rabbi, the Cantor will be a creative leader in the design and expression of music in worship services. The Cantor will coordinate Yamim Noraim Choir rehearsals.  The Cantor will support Temple and Auxiliary activities as needed.

Chinuch

The Cantor is the musical leader of our Religious School and Hebrew Lab and will implement our music curricula that brings the joy of Jewish music to our students.

The Cantor will participate directly in leading various youth services, vocal ensembles, classroom, and small group interactions, including Religious School morning t’fillah and Hebrew Lab ma’ariv worship services.

The Cantor will be a coordinator and partner in the Hebrew Lab and will work directly with the students teaching them Torah & Haftarah tropes and reviewing the Hebrew liturgy in preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Simchot v’ Avelut

The Cantor will be a regular member of our pastoral team and will be welcomed as co-officiant at members’ life-cycle events.

Position Start Date: July 1, 2023

Salary Range: $28,500 - $32,000
