Midway Jewish Center, a thriving community, seeks a rabbi to provide rabbinic leadership on a part-time basis.
The SCHECHTER SCHOOL of LONG ISLAND (www.schechterli.org) is a K-12 Jewish Day School in Nassau County, New York, known for small classes, a rigorous academic program, including Regents and AP classes, and a warm, nurturing environment.
SSLI seeks a Rav Beit Sefer / School Rabbi for the 2025-26 academic year. This position may be part-time or full-time based on the staffing needs of the department and the needs of the applicant.
The school and the synagogue offer the selected candidate the chance to engage with diverse community members across both institutions, fostering a deep connection to Jewish values, education, and community life as the Rav Beit Sefer / School Rabbi at the Schechter School of Long Island and a part-time pulpit Rabbi at Midway Jewish Center.
Position Summary
At Schechter School of Long Island Rav Beit Sefer / School Rabbi Job Description and Responsibilities:
The candidate should be a friendly, dynamic, and engaging Jewish professional with a passion for working with teenagers and skilled at teaching students at various grade levels. The ideal candidate also has broad experience working with parents and staff, as well as experience working in the context of a broader Jewish community and the Jewish world at large.

- Be experienced in teaching Tefillah, Tanakh, and Rabbinics
Responsibilities include:
- Actively engage with our Tefillah curriculum and related events
- Work collaboratively on Jewish Life programming and Shabbatonim
- Participate in Lower School Kabbalat Shabbat programming
- Support Jewish Studies faculty and the Jewish Education of our school
- Facilitate occasional parent programming
- Oversee our Bnei Mitzvah program
- Provide pastoral counseling to families
- Act as the mara d’atra of our school
- Be a dugma ishit for our student body
- Serve in a part-time pulpit capacity, with primary responsibilities during Shabbat and holiday services, including High Holy Days (leading a Main Service for over 700 people) without regular weekday commitments to the synagogue that would interfere with school duties.
- Contribute meaningfully to Shabbat Torah reading and Shabbat programming and leadership in the Main Sanctuary as requested and needed.
- Work alongside the clergy and lay leaders to create meaningful experiences that enrich the spiritual and cultural life of the community.
- Provide pastoral support, fostering relationships with congregants to help support their spiritual needs.
- Collaborative Scheduling: The synagogue will ensure that holiday programming, lifecycle events, and congregational needs align primarily with the Shabbat schedule or non-school days.
- Synagogue Support: Midway Jewish Center will respect the Rabbi’s weekday commitment to Schechter.
Joint Institutional Support
To maintain clear boundaries and ensure the Rabbi can serve both institutions effectively, the Schechter School of Long Island and Midway Jewish Center will establish distinct and complementary responsibilities, prioritizing each institution’s needs within agreed timeframes:
Clear Communication: Both institutions will maintain open communication to avoid scheduling conflicts, meeting regularly to discuss upcoming events and ensure seamless collaboration.
Focus on Well-Being and Balance: The Rabbi will have a designated contact at each institution to address any role or scheduling concerns, ensuring their capacity to meet the distinct needs of each community.
This structure supports the Rabbi in maintaining balanced responsibilities, creating meaningful engagement opportunities for both communities.

Qualifications
· Rabbinic ordination from an accredited seminary.

Midway Jewish Center, a vibrant, multigenerational Conservative synagogue of about 600 families in Syosset, NY on Long Island, seeks a Clergy Educator to serve as our Director of Youth and Education. Must possess strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills to serve as director of the religious school and the Hebrew High School, and to collaborate with Rabbi Joel Levenson to lead our community in prayer, learning, lifecycle events, and pastoral care.
