Overview
Our community is looking for someone who can lead Musaf on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Ours is a very small Conservative synagogue with a very tight budget; therefore, we can only offer and honorarium of $1000 for the service. Ideal candidates will be located in California, and willing to ride in a car during the holidays. We have a part-time rabbi, who will provide the ba’al musaf with a service outline and direction. The ba’al musaf may also be called upon to call page numbers during the repetition of the Shacharit Amidah. No other responsibilities will be assigned unless the candidate volunteers to do more.
Musaf is conducted out of Machzor Lev Shalem with an eye for expediency. The rabbi may opt to omit piyutim and other non-mandatory elements for the sake of time.
The community will provide the ba’al musaf with accommodations and transportation to and from the synagogue.
Located in the heart of California's central coast, we are a small and intimate Conservative Synagogue. All are welcome free of charge for the High Holidays. We are fully egalitarian, but do not as a rule include the matriarchs in the Amidah. Our services are rather traditional: we pray primarily in Hebrew, we call Kohen-Levi-Israel to the Torah (we include B'not Kohen and Levi for this purpose). Our rabbi comes to us once per month, and is more traditional than our members (does not ride on Shabbat and Holidays). Because he is reluctant to lead Musaf himself and have to interrupt his recitation to call page numbers and give kavanot, we are looking for our ba'al musaf.
