Overview
The Director of Engagement and Development is responsible for developing and maintaining active and productive relationships with synagogue board members, donors, congregants, and clergy, and addresses the development needs of all departments in the synagogue including the schools. The Director plans, oversees and manages annual giving, endowment, planned giving, estate planning, major gifts, and capital campaigns.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Direct integrated fundraising efforts for the synagogue including annual operating fund donations, endowment giving, and capital campaigns.
2. Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential congregants.
3. Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential individual, corporate and foundation donors.
4. Manage all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations including all aspects of synagogue branding and marketing.
5. Coordinate and facilitate the fundraising efforts of lay leadership. Work closely with the synagogue board and volunteers to ensure the fulfillment of all fundraising obligations.
6. Evaluate current fundraising campaigns, events, and committees; recommend and implement new strategies where appropriate.
7. Develop fundraising materials to assist with solicitation of funds both from congregants and potential corporate supporters.
8. Identify and seek out grant funding opportunities for the congregation and oversee the application process.
9. Present progress reports as required to the President, the Board of Directors, and the Rabbi.
10. Serve as a public representative of the synagogue, including cultivating relationships with community members, prospective volunteers, and supporters in order to build awareness of and commitment to the synagogue’s mission; will attend synagogue functions regularly on and off campus including but not limited to Friday night services.
1. Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations.
2. Demonstrated ability and experience in donor cultivation, donor stewardship and special events.
3. Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented style.
4. Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture.
5. High energy, positive attitude, flexibility, teamwork and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
6. Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.
7. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and a thorough understanding of strategic development.
8. Strong partnership building and event planning skills.
9. Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.
10. Strong computer, social media and website management skills.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 5 years of related experience
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Light travel

About Ramat Shalom Synagogue
Ramat Shalom is one of the oldest synagogues in Broward County. The congregation was founded in 1976 as a small, Jewish discussion group that met in members’ homes. The group quickly grew into a synagogue with many members, a rabbi, a building, and an organized school. Despite its increase in size, the congregation has never lost the small, intimate feeling that characterized Ramat Shalom from the outset. We pride ourselves on being a real community of Jews who care for each other, celebrate with each other, and grow with each other.
For many years, Ramat Shalom was affiliated with the Reconstructionist Movement, the younger sister of the Conservative Movement. Today, instead of affiliating with a specific movement, Ramat Shalom embraces the tradition of the Conservative Movement, the emphasis on learning and study of the Reconstructionist Movement and the creativity of the Reform Movement. Our Rabbi was trained in both the Conservative and Reconstructionist Movements and our Cantorial Soloist has a great deal of experience working in the Reform Movement. The two of them create a spiritual home that is uniquely Ramat Shalom.
