Temple Beth Zion Beth Israel, a thriving, dynamic, egalitarian, Conservative Jewish community of more than 450 households in Philadelphia, seeks a warm, dynamic and energetic educator to serve as its Early Childhood Education Director beginning June 2017. Our ideal Director will have knowledge of, and commitment to, Jewish practice and the Jewish community. This person will lead our play-based Jewish preschool program consisting of approximately 70 children during the school year and our day camp in the summer months. Our preschool plays an integral role in our synagogue community, and we are looking for a Director who has the commitment and vision to effectively lead our program and integrate the program with the activities and membership of our synagogue. The position requires a full-time and full-year commitment.
The successful candidate will have strong teaching and administrative experience in Early Childhood Education, and have the requisite skills for fostering a nurturing environment to promote the development of social skills, attainment of educational milestones and the love of learning. This Director should have a passion for teaching Jewish values and traditions to children and their families.
The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of preschool and summer camp, including administration, operation and budget management, and day-to-day teacher and team management.
Specifically, the Director will:
Hire, supervise and develop teachers and delegate responsibilities;
Expand development and implementation of a play-based curriculum infused with Jewish content;
Continue engaging enrichment programs;
Actively facilitate the relationship between the preschool and congregation;
Create and implement programming for families with young children and new family outreach;
Coordinate and implement fundraising plans in concert with synagogue staff;
Market and promote the school to the community, including through social media;
Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements.

BA in Early Childhood Education (MA preferred);
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching and the administration of Early Childhood Education;
Deep understanding and knowledge of emergent curriculum;
