Overview

Kehilath Israel Synagogue (“K.I.”), a Traditional Synagogue, located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City is searching for a new Sr. Rabbi following our rabbi’s retirement.

K.I. is a vibrant part of a thriving Jewish community of approximately 19,000 Jewish people.  The community has an active Jewish Federation and a Jewish day-school.  Currently, K.I. has a membership of approximately 400 families. Members’ level of observance varies, with each member finding what is right for them and their family.

K.I. is committed to honoring traditional Jewish values and observances. KI’s rituals are in accordance with traditional minhag/observance. However, we are absolutely committed to maintaining our family style mixed seating in our sanctuary.

The specific job responsibilities include:

–        Conduct Shabbat, weekday minyan, and Holy Days services;

–        Deliver engaging sermons;

–        Ability to read Torah;

–        Promote Jewish learning for all members;

–        Attend to the pastoral and life cycle events for members of K.I.;

–        Be a resource for members of the congregation, and the community, on questions of Jewish law, traditions, and values;

–        Work with families of B’nai Mitzvah and assist in preparing B’nai Mitzvah for those ceremonies;

–        Develop and oversee youth programming.

Rabbinic Ordination from recognized seminary is required, along with membership in good standing in a national rabbinic association.
