Overview

We are looking for a rabbi to lead our community’s High Holy Days services.

Our ideal candidate will connect with us as individuals and as a community. He or she will bring a strong intellect and will share this by connecting Torah and texts to our services. Ideally, clergy will help us welcome both new and long-standing members with warmth and enthusiasm.

The rabbi works collaboratively with the cantorial soloist, volunteer choir, and High Holy Days planning committee to lead six services:  evening and morning services on the first day of Rosh Hashana, and

Kol Nidre, morning service, Yizkor, and Ne’ila on Yom Kippur.

There are three final rehearsals, one for Rosh Hashana and two for Yom Kippur.

·        We use the Gates of Repentance for most services.  We have written alternate liturgy for the Torah service, Kol Nidre, and Ne’ila.

·        The order of the service, including the music, is set.  It includes traditional melodies, nusach, and original settings composed for Beth Am.  We have a cantorial soloist who has been with us for many years.  Congregants read Torah and blow shofar.

·        The rabbi has flexibility to add readings, meditations, and alternative versions of prayers to the spoken liturgy.

·        Thought-provoking sermons are important to us.

·        The rabbi delivers three sermons and prepares materials for one study session.

·        Often sermons and study session have a common theme.
