Overview
- Lead Friday evening and Saturday morning Shabbat services
- Lead adult education, Torah study and discussions or other programming on Saturday afternoons.
- Teach the oldest class in Sunday School on the weeks when in Appleton.
- Prepare B’nai Mitzvah students:
- Teach trope for Torah and Haftorah and their Haftorah portion, and the Maftir in person and via Zoom or phone when necessary and not in Appleton.
- Work with the Sunday School principal on curriculum for students.
- Officiate at lifecycle events other than B’nai Mitzvah, if available.
- Personally visit ill or homebound members as appropriate.
- Lead High Holiday services to include Erev Rosh Hashanah, both days of Rosh Hashanah, Tashlikh, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur (Separate compensation).
- Lead Congregation Seder on the Second Day of Passover.
- Create a sense of community within the congregation.
- Provide religious and emotional support when necessary and appropriate.
- Provide support, counseling, and tutoring for people engaged in conversion.
- Creatively nurture the spiritual growth of our members.
Ordained Rabbi or Cantor who can serve the religious, spiritual, educational and emotional
needs of our congregation and can appreciate and foster the diversity of our congregation in
terms of our Jewish knowledge, faith, beliefs, socio-economic status, sexual orientation and
backgrounds.

Moses Montefiore Congregation, located in Appleton, Wisconsin, is seeking to hire a part-time Rabbi or Cantor effective November 1, 2024. Affiliated with USCJ, we are a small, but active and vibrant multi-generational spiritual community of approximately 60 membership units. As a diverse community, we warmly welcome people of all backgrounds, levels of knowledge, observances and interfaith families. Appleton, Wisconsin is located 100 miles North of Milwaukee, WI and 90 miles East of Madison, WI.
