Montefiore is an award-winning Sydney-based aged care provider with a proud 130-year history as a non-profit organisation supporting over 700 older members of the community to live with choice, dignity and wellbeing.

A rare opportunity is available for a dynamic and experienced Spiritual Dean to join our innovative, not-for-profit aged care organisation. We are seeking expressions of interest from candidates who can provide some or all elements of the role on a either a permanent full-time or part-time basis.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Spiritual Dean of our residential aged care facilities to provide spiritual leadership to our Montefiore community and support the Jewish ethos of the organization. As the Spiritual Dean, you will establish meaningful relationships with our residents while respecting their rights to observe Halacha to the extent and in the manner in which they personally observed Halacha in the past. A caring and warm personality, as well as a genuine passion and affinity for our elderly community, are a must to succeed in this role.

The primary responsibilities of the Spiritual Dean are to:

·         Support the religiosity of residential care services

·         Attend to the spiritual well-being and pastoral care needs of Montefiore’s residential care residents

·         Oversee the Kashrut requirements across the organization

·         Act as the primary Rabbi/Minister at Hunters Hill, Randwick, and Woollahra

·         Support spiritual requirements across all Montefiore services as required

What we require:

·         Rabbi/Minister qualifications (Relevant tertiary qualifications, i.e., Education, Counselling, etc are a bonus)

·         Experience providing pastoral or counseling services to community members

·         Experience overseeing Kashrut

·         Experience conducting Shiurim

·         Experience reading the Torah when conducting services

·         Highly developed verbal and public speaking skills

·         Well-developed written communication skills

·         Literate in Microsoft office suite

This role requires travel between our three Jewish-specific services located at Randwick, Woollahra, and Hunters Hill, as well as other locations to attend and officiate at minyans and funerals as required. As such, applicants are required to have their own car and current driver’s license.
