Kerem Shalom seeks an experienced, creative, inspiring, and progressive Jewish educational leader to serve as our full-time Director of Congregational Learning (DCL), beginning in summer 2020. Located in Concord, Massachusetts, Kerem Shalom is a diverse, progressive, unaffiliated Jewish community that includes many interfaith families.

The DCL will work in close partnership with our Rabbi to strategize and implement a shared vision of learning that utilizes an engaging, meaningful, and holistic curriculum to inspire youth and family congregants. They will maintain primary responsibility for the Hebrew school and collaborate with a professional team including the Director of Family Education and the Director of Adult Programming to coordinate congregational learning across our community.

This staff member will serve in a planning and supervisory capacity and must be willing to execute programs with a hands-on approach. The Director must be eager to strategize, experiment, reflect, and correct course as needed so that they and Kerem Shalom can grow and flourish. The DCL will also serve as a Kerem Shalom ambassador, fostering and actively engaging students and their parents, helping create a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment, and maintaining a visible presence in all areas of congregational learning. In addition, the DCL position entails the administrative work involved in running the Hebrew school as well as other youth programs.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a Master’s level Jewish educator who is engaging, reflective, organized, and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to connect with individuals and families, adults and children alike, both formally and informally, is essential. The successful candidate will have demonstrated creative capacities to envision many alternative strategies for community engagement, as well as a commitment to creating a vital, caring community of learners. They should also have experience working with interfaith families, and demonstrated skills in helping connect a diverse community.

The DCL must have strong management and administrative abilities as well as Judaic programming, classroom teaching, and educator supervision and mentoring experience.  Ideally the Director would have experience working with students with special needs and their families. Knowledge of current best practices in classroom instruction and management is also required, as is a child-centered philosophy that recognizes the individuality of every student and the wide variety of learning styles and abilities.
