Temple Or Elohim is located on the North Shore of Long Island, New York in the highly desirable community and school districts of Jericho and Syosset.  We are a growing Reform Synagogue with approximately 300 member families.  However, after 15 years of legendary devotion to our Temple, our Rabbi is ready to retire.

Qualifications:

We, as a temple, are seeking a Rabbi as our spiritual leader with the following:

•           Ordained by a recognized Jewish seminary or rabbinic training program

•           At least 5 years experience as a congregational rabbi or as an associate rabbi at a larger congregation

•           Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills

•           Engaging and dynamic personality

•           Warm, personable, compassionate, approachable

•           Maintains a vision of Reform Judaism

•           Performs all rabbinic religious duties: i.e. High Holiday services, Prepare and present the liturgy and sermons for Shabbat and other holidays

•           Ability to make Judaism meaningful and relevant and to deliver sermons in a concise, passionate and meaningful way

•           Be involved in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah/Confirmation training process, rehearse with students as needed; officiate all Bar/Bat Mitzvah/Confirmation ceremonies

•           Ability to work collaboratively with the Cantor, Director of Education, lay leadership and professional staff

•           Acts as a resource and maintains a presence in Religious School

•           Demonstrates that Jewish education for all is essential to sustaining a Jewish life and a Jewish future

•           Initiates and leads periodic adult education programs

•           Be scholarly in the Jewish religion, Torah, history, literature, culture, including reading, writing and speaking Hebrew and be able to transmit this knowledge to adults and children

•           Available to officiate at all types of Life Cycle events - baby namings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, funerals, shiva, etc.

•           Possesses an ability to listen, counsel and advise congregants

•           Performs pastoral services that support our members in need, including comforting the bereaved and visiting the sick

•           Participates in recruitment of new members

•           Actively welcomes and engages interfaith families

•           Integrates interfaith families into the Ritual Practices of the congregation

•           Actively supports our fundraising efforts
