Overview

This interim, part-time (10 hours/week) position works closely with the Center for Jewish Living team to provide pastoral support, and program planning and administration to the Center for Jewish Living programs and the Circles of Welcome community.

Schedule: 10 hours/week from February-May for a total of 10-12 weeks. Schedule is flexible, with some evening availability expected, but with the opportunity to work from home for some hours. Ideally, available to be at the JCC for 4 hours each on Thursdays and one other weekday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as interim program coordinator for Circles of Welcome, including:

1-1 intake meetings and pastoral conversations with couples
Provide a rabbinic presence for interfaith couples in the JCC community
Coordinating with marketing director to market Circles of Welcome programming, ongoing Circles, and events
Supervise and support mentors of ongoing Circles
Plan and run Circles of Welcome community events
Basics of Judaism

Intake meetings with prospective students
Communicate with registration regarding approved students and payment plans
Supporting Basics of Judaism teachers as necessary
Sending out evaluation at end of the semester
General Center for Jewish Living support

Be available pastorally to individuals who reach out to the JCC looking for a rabbi and refer as appropriate
Coordinate NY Rabbis Teach Torah weekly Torah study class
Support Center for Jewish Living faculty – attend initial classes of the semester, troubleshoot classroom problems, work with marketing to market these classes and programs
Attend and staff Center for Jewish Living special programs (book talks, Shabbat Shabbang, Seder Shabbang, holiday programs, etc.) on an as-needed basis

Qualifications:

Ideal candidate is a rabbinical student with interest in working in a non-denominational, innovative Jewish communal environment
Ease and experience working with interfaith couples and families and diverse expressions of Jewish identity
Collaborative with a wide variety of departments, colleagues, and program participant-leaders
Detail-oriented and administratively skilled
Quick learner, able to rapidly adapt to a fast-moving, busy institution
Responsive by phone and email
Pastoral experience
