Overview

Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced professional for a part-time Director for Gettysburg College’s chapter of Hillel.  Gettysburg is an undergraduate liberal arts and sciences college, which enrolls approximately 2,600 primarily residential students. The College is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual who has a strong administrative, collaborative, and student-focused background to serve in this position. The person in the position will be a member of the College Life Division and will also work closely with, and be supervised by, the Associate Dean of Religious and Spiritual Life.  The position is 10-12 hours a week during the academic year.

The primary responsibility of the Hillel Director is to provide leadership and oversight for the Gettysburg chapter of Hillel, and also support Jewish life on campus in general. This includes idea generation, planning and implementation of student events, and expanding and developing programming options. The Director will act as a resource for the campus community and will strategically network and build regional and campus partnerships. In addition, the Director will:

·         Promote exploration of Jewish life and culture through religious, educational, and social programs;

·         Offer programs for the entire student body to learn about the Jewish faith;

·         Organize rabbinical leadership for the observance of Jewish holidays, and promote student leadership to assist in these holidays and Shabbat meals;

·         Serve as mentor to the Hillel House, a residential living-learning community that is part of the College House programs

·         Serve as a resource to Admissions in the recruitment and retention of Jewish students

·         Promote Hillel traditions, including development of student leadership and commitment to social justice programming and service;

·         Promote ties to regional and national Hillel organizations;

·         Explore grant and fundraising opportunities available to support Gettysburg Hillel;

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree in Jewish Education, Judaic Studies, Education, or related field is preferred. Programming experience at the collegiate level, and past experience in community organizing, student leadership development, and Jewish education is a plus. Additionally, the candidate must have a working knowledge of Jewish traditions, customs, holidays, and a passion for Judaism.
