Overview

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Director of Jewish Engagement and Innovation (DJEI) is responsible for implementing innovative and connective Jewish experiences for Sid Jacobson JCC.  The DJEI will work in partnership with staff and lay leadership to enable the JCC to manifest creative, dynamic, engaging expressions of Jewish life and community. The DJEI will create a culture in which Jewish tradition and culture supports human development and family and communal connection. Additionally, the DJEI will be a key connector at Sid Jacobson JCC, developing relationships with members and participants of all ages and stages of life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Jewish Innovations:

  • Push Sid Jacobson JCC to be on the cutting edge of Jewish programming and experiences for all populations
  • Develop new and innovative Jewish programs for all populations
  • Research and analyze the effectiveness of Jewish engagement and education, the changes required, and the ways in which such changes may be implemented
  • Responsible for sourcing and bringing to SJJCC speakers, trainers and cultural providers for Jewish engagement from local, national and international sources

Jewish Programming:

  • Ensure high quality Jewish educational programs are being brought to the Early Childhood classrooms each week, including but not limited to Shabbat and holiday celebrations
  • Work with JCC camp leadership to bring innovative Jewish engagement concepts to the camp environment
  • Facilitation of Taste of Torah, a weekly discussion group for adults and seniors which focuses on bringing the weekly Torah portion to life
  • Oversight of Shabbat Celebrations in Early Childhood and Adult Day Programs

Staff and Departmental Support:

  • Prepare and run orientations for program staff to increase their Jewish knowledge, cultural competency, and strengthen their ability to share Jewish traditions, culture and values to program participants
  • Serve as a resource to all departments to infuse and expand Jewish content and quality in their particular area of services
  • Develop and strengthen Jewish content and curriculum throughout the agency
  • Prepare Jewish Holiday programming for the staff and the community
  • Identify, acquire and, as necessary, develop Jewish educational materials for use in programming, and for display/distribution throughout the JCC, on website, and as part of other publications

Community Relations:

  • Work with lay leaders and professionals at numerous communal agencies, synagogues and institutions to build capacity among current Jewish educational initiatives, develop new cross-communal initiatives and support engagement projects across the community
  • Supervision of CSA program

Randie Waldbaum Malinsky Center for Israel (RCFI):

The RCFI and the Shlichut program build community through connection to Israel. DJI will:

Assist with the oversight of the RCFI:

  • Functioning of shlichut
  • In-house programming
  • Partnership development
  • Support the staff and program of the RCFI
  • Support community partnerships of RCFI initiatives
  • Ensure the celebration and commemoration of Israeli holidays and occasions
  • Support the connection of RCFI staff to JCC departments, staff and program
  • Ensure collaboration of the RCFI and Jewish Innovations

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, Masters in Jewish Education a plus
  • Experience in program development and delivery
  • Comfortable in a public speaking role
  • Strong working knowledge of Jewish values and traditions
  • Ability to work with both children and adults
  • Ability to work comfortably with all sections of the Jewish community
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, lay leaders and program participants
  • Understanding of key and current trends in the areas of Jewish community and Israel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with comfort taking initiative
  • Passion and commitment to SJJCC’s vision of being the Jewish destination
