Drew University, a Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts university, includes the College of Liberal Arts, the Drew Theological School and the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. Drew is located on a beautiful, wooded, 186-acre campus in Madison, New Jersey, a thriving small town close to New York City. It has a total enrollment of more than 2,000 students and has 145 full-time faculty members, 94% of whom hold the terminal degree in their field. The Theological and Caspersen Schools offer MA and Ph.D. degrees and the College confers BA degrees in 30 disciplines.

Drew University Hillel seeks a dynamic and proactive professional with strong presentation and engagement experience to serve as the Director of Hillel Jewish Student Organization. The successful candidate will forge a strong relationship with students, represent Hillel with a variety of Hillel constituencies and maintain and improve the Jewish student experience at the university.

We seek a Hillel Director who is creative and engaging, with a strong Jewish background, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be available to participate in celebrations and observances on campus, be a self-starter, capable multi-tasker, and able to facilitate interfaith dialogue.

This is a part-time position at 10 hours per week, reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Leadership Development

  • Work with student leadership to build a sustainable Jewish campus community
  • Develop and expand effective student leadership
  • Empower student leadership to carry out their responsibilities

Engagement

  • Identify and engage potential student leaders
  • Be a visible Jewish presence on campus
  • Work with other religious life advisors and student leaders to collaborate on campus-wide interfaith dialogue and programming
  • Participate in regular leadership meetings to address campus climate issues and consider ways to improve communication and build relationship among religious life organizations
  • Identify and develop strategies to engage students
  • Be available for student-initiated private discussions; refer for counseling/other resources where appropriate.

Programming

  • Work with student leadership to build a sustainable, pluralistic Jewish campus community
  • Assist students to develop religious programming (Shabbat, holidays) and celebrate Judaism on campus – religiously, culturally, and socially
  • Maintain, enhance and expand campus programs including topical lunch discussions, Shabbat dinners, all social events and interfaith club initiatives
  • Be an experiential Jewish educator who nurtures the Jewish growth of others through conversations and activities
  • Facilitate evaluations of co-curricular aspects of Jewish educational programming

External and Campus Relations

  • Act as liaison between the Jewish student population and the local Jewish community
  • Collaborate with the Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest New Jersey
  • Participate in and work with local community to bring together student population with local community
  • Cultivate relationships with University administration, relevant academic departments, faculty, and community leaders
