Overview

Congregation Beth Sholom is a warm, vibrant, multigenerational,  egalitarian Conservative congregation with an engaged and active community.  Located in Teaneck, New Jersey, we are minutes from the George Washington Bridge and just a short commute from Manhattan.  The congregation’s spiritual life includes robust Shabbat and holiday services, an alternative minyan of over 100, wonderful adult education programs and children’s and adult acapella groups.

We are seeking to fill a newly created position to help us continue implementing innovative programs for families with young children for our membership and the wider Jewish community.  The Director of Family and Youth Programs will be a key Senior Team member who is an experienced professional and passionate about Conservative Judaism.

  • Plan, implement and manage an exciting, innovative annual calendar of activities for youth and families with young children
  • Partner with community resources to encourage families to participate in events in and out of our synagogue
  • Reimagine what Congregation Beth Sholom youth services look like on Shabbat and chagim; to be done in conjunction with lay leadership and volunteer minyan leaders
  • Collaborate with long-standing youth engagement programs. (children’s choir, Lunch and Leyn program for fifth graders)
  • Supervise Director of Youth Engagement (USY/Kadima) and Shabbat minyan leaders
  • Communicate effectively with families, lay leadership, Rabbi and senior staff
  • Galvanize participation with colleagues and the community at large
  • Design, implement and assess success of programs which focus on families and youth members
  • Position Congregation Beth Sholom to achieve growth in membership
  • Implement a vision for the role of this new position based on needs of the congregation and the community
  • Leverage ideas with communications consultant for marketing strategies

Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Trained in Jewish education (or related field) with a commitment to Jewish life and learning
  • Engaging interpersonal and networking skills
  • Collaborative Senior Team member and leader
  • Extremely organized self-starter with strong computer skills
  • Expertise in engaging young families in Jewish life within and outside synagogue
  • Supervisory, planning and leadership experience required
  • Three+ years of work-related experience preferred
  • Background in Jewish community building and passionate about Jewish values
