Congregation Kneseth Israel (CKI) is located in beautiful colonial Annapolis, the capital of Maryland. CKI was founded in 1906 as an Orthodox synagogue, but moved forward in 2000 with mixed seating. In May, 2020, the membership voted to allow women to be equal participants.
As our congregation looks forward, we seek to hire a dynamic full-time Rabbi to grow and energize our membership. Many of our current members are retirees, dedicated to welcoming new families and singles to our beautiful spacious sanctuary. We wish to provide the entire congregation with inspiring religious services, classes, lectures, programs and learning. Music is an important spiritual cornerstone of CKI. We are known for our outstanding choir and talented musical director. With vibrant Rabbinic leadership, our congregation has enormous potential to renew its legacy and continue as the beacon for the Annapolis Jewish community.
Primary Responsibilities:
 Provide religious and spiritual leadership to invigorate and energize members
 Inspire Jewish knowledge, understanding, beliefs, and practices
 Create personal and meaningful interactions with congregants and greater community
 Promote communal activity and work to build membership
Principal Duties:
 Lead Shabbat, Holiday, and weekday services, Lain Torah
 Create a warm, welcoming and accepting prayer environment
 Deliver meaningful sermons designed to educate, inform, challenge, and inspire
 Coordinate and officiate lifecycle events, including, but not limited to: Brit Milah, baby
namings, B’nai Mitzvot, weddings, funerals, and Shiva services
 Work with the religious committee to address ritual practices, services, and holiday programs
 Coordinate and deliver educational programs, designed to appeal to a broad range of
participants
 Actively seek and welcome new members
 Work with the Board of Governors to establish strategies for active community participation
 Visit the sick, elderly, and shut-ins
 Maintain an active presence on CKI social media and website
 Be available via telephone, email, and text for consultation by congregants

Qualifications:
Education: Ordination (Semicha). Learned in Halacha, Torah, Jewish History, literature, culture
Jewish Observance: Highly engaged in Jewish spiritual path, demonstrate a strong commitment to Israel, Sensitive to the greater Annapolis Jewish community
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Enthusiastic and engaging; welcoming and hospitable; open; gracious and empathetic; superb communicator
