The Michael-Ann Russell (MAR) JCC represents a model of acceptance, understanding, and diversity. As such, people look at the MAR-JCC as a center of excellence that epitomizes how shared Jewish values support a vibrant, diverse and evolving constituency. The mission of the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center/Sanford L. Ziff Campus is dedicated to the enrichment of Jewish life and fosters the spiritual, emotional, and physical development of its individual members through all of life’s stages and circumstances. The JCC seeks a CEO who is an energetic, visionary, and passionate leader; a professional who possesses excellent strategic and management skills with a proven track record in financial management and community building. The CEO will build on the successes of the past while enabling the JCC to enter a new era in meeting current and future opportunities. The CEO must be skilled at developing and leading a staff team as well as a cadre of devoted volunteer leaders.

Provides Exemplary Executive Leadership

The CEO will be a warm and engaging leader who is accessible and listens to all viewpoints, demonstrates confidence and a positive approach. The CEO must be a highly accomplished relationship builder, comfortable with all levels of constituencies from the most seasoned lay leaders to new young leadership, professional staff colleagues and those not yet engaged. A forward thinking, energetic individual, the CEO will promote a culture of innovation, drive the key businesses of the JCC and be a change agent to create on-going excitement and excellence for the JCC in the community.

Demonstrates Skill in Operational Management

The CEO provides leadership to all aspects of the JCC operations and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the JCC. This includes an understanding of the physical plant, technical support systems and running the various businesses of the JCC. Visibility and responsiveness to members is a strong value. The CEO will be decisive in action, adaptable and accountable.

Exhibits Skill in Fiscal Management

The CEO must plan for financial stability and sustainability in partnership with the CFO and the finance and audit committees. A key to this is having the knowledge of financial systems, the ability to establish and maintain a realistic budget, and the aptitude to use timely financial statements to guide and oversee agency performance.

Displays Sound Staff Management Skills

The CEO will create a culture of positivity and productivity in the work environment, inspiring, engaging and empowering the professional staff of the JCC. Through selecting, developing and motivating staff, the CEO will foster innovation, teamwork and collaboration to ensure that best practices and cutting edge developments are the norm.

Presents Visionary and Strategic Leadership

The CEO will promote an all-encompassing and compelling vision that captures the energy of the JCC and represents the strategic planning and priorities as determined by the Board, as well as carves out a path for a more robust, engaged and involved community going forward. The CEO will actively engage with other Jewish and general community organizations, working to support existing collaborative programs and to envision new ways to work together. The CEO must see the big picture - managing current issues while thinking long term.

Proven Ability in Fundraising and Resource Development

The CEO must engage and steward donors, and seek gifts of significance. Entrepreneurial and attuned to donor interests and concerns, the CEO will direct cutting edge practices in donor development to enhance and improve the community's potential. Highly visible in the community, the CEO will reach out and cultivate new potential donors at all levels.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with 10+ years of strategic leadership and management experience in JCCs, Jewish communal organizations, business, and/or non-profit sectors. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • A proven record of successfully building trusted relationships with a variety of constituencies and stakeholders, including those of diverse populations.
  • Understanding of, and successful experience in, all areas of fiscal management, fundraising and financial resource development. A willingness and desire to be personally involved with these efforts are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity.
  • A successful track record of working with a board of directors and understanding the volunteer-professional partnership.
  • Enthusiasm about the JCC's mission and the ability to inspire others to create a community dedicated to that mission.
