Part-Time Cantor

Beth Am Shalom, a small reform congregation of 145 members located in Ocean County, NJ is seeking a ¼ time Cantor. (most weeks require less than 10 hours while during High Holy Days and some other weeks the commitment is greater).  We have an active religious school with 29 students. We are a diverse congregation with seniors, empty-nesters, and families with children.  Our Rabbi, Stephen Gold, has been with our Synagogue since 1998.

Our Cantor is supplied with a beautiful office, secretarial support, an incredibly good guitar, and an electric keyboard. For additional information about our synagogue, you can find us on Facebook, Beth Am Shalom – A Reform Synagogue.

Duties include:

Pulpit:

Conduct erev Shabbat Services with Rabbi Gold on the First Friday (Family Service) and one other Friday each month.  At Family Service, direct B’nai Ruach (Jr. Choir).

Conduct Shabbat Morning services when there is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. (10 in 2020/21. 3 in 2021/22) (Accompanist plays Clavinova at these services.)

Plan and conduct all High Holiday Services with Rabbi Gold.  Rehearsals with Accompanist as needed.

Conduct 2 Festival Evening Services with Rabbi and direct B’nai Ruach; Erev Sukkot, Erev Sh’mini-Atzeret-Simchat Torah.

Conduct a Purim Service including preparation of a Purim Spiel, mostly during regular B’nai Ruach rehearsals.

Education

*Prepare B’nai Mitzvah Students: in private tutorials:

Specified prayers, Read/Some Chanted.

Torah portion and trope

Haftorah and trope.

*Teach Religious School on Sundays and Tuesdays in grades 6 & 7 from September to May.

*Rehearse with B’nai Ruach one hour before Religious School on Sundays: 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM.

Pastoral

Officiate at funerals in absence of Rabbi Gold.________
