Community Description:

Beit Shalom was founded in 1984 as a Conservative Jewish Synagogue. Its membership consists of Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and Reform Jews who all work and worship together.

Originally, services were held weekly on Friday nights in the Concordia Sales Office. Attendance grew to about 125 people.

In 1992, as the membership increased, the Congregation rented a store in the Concordia Shopping Center. Services were expanded from Friday nights to Saturdays and holidays.

In 1996, as membership further increased, the Congregation rented a triple store in the shopping center and renovated it into a Synagogue center. Services were now expended to include daily mornings and evenings, and every Saturday and all Holidays.

Because the membership continued to increase to over 1,700, and to accommodate the enlarging of the Stop and Shop Supermarket, in 2003, the Synagogue once again moved to larger quarters in the Concordia Shopping Center.

Today, Beit Shalomfers its membership of almost 2,000 a plethora of religious, educational, and social programs. Included in our offerings are lectures, films, courses, visiting the sick, and celebrations of all holidays. It has truly become the focal point of activity for the local Jewish community. It is also prides itself in being active in and supporting the affairs of the larger community.
