Overview

18Doors is seeking a Director of our Chicago Innovation Hub. The full-time Director will take over at an exciting time for 18Doors, building on our success and past work in Chicago to become a research and innovation hub for 18Doors, helping implement our new strategic plan to expand our impact with interfaith couples and families and support organizations to become more inclusive.

The ideal candidate is an ordained Rabbi or Cantor who is passionate about working with interfaith couples and families, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and is comfortable working with or learning a variety of technology tools. The Director will join our existing community of practice, which consists of full-time rabbis serving in Atlanta and Cleveland, and eleven 18Doors Rukin Rabbinic Fellows.

Responsibilities

The Director will be responsible for connecting with interfaith families and couples, connecting couples and families to one another, and to Jewish institutions and professionals that could be the right fit for them. Responsibilities fall into four areas:

  • Community Engagement: Develop relationships with interfaith couples and families, and Jewish professionals, clergy and institutions; represent 18Doors Chicago and the needs of interfaith families at community events and meetings; and develop relationships with 18Doors Chicago stakeholders.
  • Facilitation, Training and Professional Development: Teach Jewish professionals, clergy and lay leaders how to include and support interfaith couples and families. Facilitate programs for parents of young children and workshops for engaged or newly married interfaith couples. Help codify curriculum for above programs.
  • Counseling and Officiation: Provide consultations and rabbinic support for people in interfaith families, including officiation at lifecycle events, and follow up with Chicago area requests from the 18Doors Jewish Clergy Officiation Referral Service.
  • Management: Manage grant goals and deliverables; manage the program budget; potentially hire and supervise an 18Doors Chicago Program Manager; and work with Program Manager to develop biweekly and monthly reports.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Experience

  • Rabbinic or cantorial ordination from an accredited Jewish seminary
  • Deep understanding of the Chicago Jewish community
  • At least 3 years of experience in the Jewish community working in or with Jewish organizations
  • Experience working with, and understanding of the needs of, interfaith couples and families in Jewish life
  • Creativity in approaching relationship- and community-building; approachable manner and strong ability to engage with people; be a “connector”
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication (written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Ability to adjust to dynamically changing priorities, manage multiple projects and resources with competing priorities and timelines, innovate and learn new tools and processes, pitch in and “get hands dirty” in a small, entrepreneurial national non-profit
  • Collaborative working style, detail-oriented, ready to take ownership, self-starter, resourceful, flexible, persistent and persuasive
  • Comfortable with new technologies and proficient with standard office products and software

Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000
